Helm's Deep
named for Helm Hammerhand, was a fortified gorge in the White Mountains located below the Thrihyrne. It lay near the Westfold and was the location of the Hornburg. It was later made famous by the Battle of the Hornburg, a major battle of the War of the Ring.
The Lord of the Rings
tells the story of a quest by a hobbit named Frodo Baggins to destroy the One Ring, a powerful artifact created by the Dark Lord Sauron. Frodo is joined by a diverse group of companions, known as the Fellowship of the Ring, on a journey to the fires of Mount Doom in Mordor, the only place the Ring can be unmade. The quest to destroy the Ring is the central plot, set against the backdrop of the War of the Ring across Middle-earth.
